RAW Camera File and Format

Three Advantages to RAW

-uncompressed (an 8 megapixel camera will produce a 8 MB Raw file).
-higher in dynamic range (ability to display highlights and shadows).
-the complete (lossless) data from the camera’s sensor.

Disadvantages
-Not as sharp.

Three Advantage of JPEG

-immediately suitable for printing, sharing, or posting on the Web.
-Higher in contrast and sharper
-Processed by your camera

Disadvantages
-Fairly small in size.

1. Raw Files retain a lot more date than JPEG's after a picture is taken.
2. In a RAW file you can manually change the Balance, contrast, highlights, shadows, colors and saturation.
3. You should be aware that RAW files will take up much more space on your SD card.
4. An aspiring photographer would use a RAW file so they can manipulate the pictures better, and have a better final picture.
